It'll stop playing for minutes at a time and you'll hear it spinning up and down as it tries to read.Pretty disappointing. We find this product often has trouble reading CDs (both purchased and burned CD-Rs).
It has a nice finish, good sound, and the controls are not the cheap pieces I thought they would be. But after wondering what a Coby product would be like I found it to be as nice as anything Aiwa or Sony would put out. I am happy with this purchase. I was pleasantly surprised when this little boom box arrived for one of my mother's friends. There appears to not be much of a CD player market any more and most of the first tier vendors have gotten out of the business.
The FM Radio has a Quartz lock on the frequency which keeps the FM station locked in so there is no static. so this is frustrating. I bought this for my 72 year old father, who mainly wanted a radio without static. The main reason I bought the MP3 model( $10 more) instead of just the CD model, is so it could play MP3s I created for my father, instead of creating ten discs I could just make one. The CD player works great and my father listens to his CD in his office. It does not always read the disc especially if it has been playing something else and the unit has warmed up the plastic around the laser. The only problem is it takes the player a few minutes to read the MP3 disc and then play. Discs that it had played before may not play again.
I used it to play 40 tracks that I downloaded to play during my son's birth. As long as you burn the disk correctly (or according to the directions provided along with item), this portable cd player works perfectly.
The service to receive this was absolutely great. I listen to audiobooks and Coby is the only one (that I know of) that will play MP-3 CD's.
